How it works and where it is used

A frame-type supply air unit is an assembly with a load-bearing frame and insulated panels attached to it. The casing houses the sections needed to condition the air: filters, a heater, a cooler and a fan. Outdoor air enters through the air intake, receives the treatment specified in the project, and is delivered by the fan into the duct network. Extract air is removed by a separate exhaust system. The sections and their order are determined by the building’s needs, available utilities and installation conditions.

Design

Sections configured for the project

The unit is built around a load-bearing frame and insulated panels. Filters, a supply fan and the selected air-treatment sections are installed inside. A drain pan and condensate outlet are provided for the cooler, while service doors or removable panels allow access to components. The controls and additional components depend on the selected configuration.

The unit can be supplied as a single assembly or as separate sections for on-site installation. Selection takes into account the installation location, service access and equipment delivery requirements. For outdoor installation, the casing design and unit configuration are chosen to suit the climate conditions.

For buildings of different types

Frame-type supply air units are used in central ventilation systems. The equipment configuration is selected based on the required air exchange, air-treatment needs and the specifics of the site.

  1. 01Offices and administrative buildingsOutdoor air supply as part of a central ventilation system.
  2. 02Retail propertiesA solution for shops, shopping centres and public spaces.
  3. 03Hotels and sports facilitiesThe section configuration is selected to suit the purpose of the spaces and the project.
  4. 04Warehouses and logistics centresEquipment is selected with the layout and installation conditions in mind.
  5. 05Industrial premisesThe unit configuration is determined by supply-air requirements and engineering conditions.
  6. 06Facilities with special requirementsSuitable configurations are considered for healthcare facilities and cleanrooms.

Configuration options

Choose the layout and air treatment

The frame unit configuration depends on the available space, operating conditions and required air treatment. The feasibility of a specific layout is confirmed during selection.

Horizontal or vertical

A horizontal layout arranges the sections in sequence; a vertical layout may reduce the footprint if supported by the manufacturer.

Indoor or outdoor

The casing configuration is selected for indoor or outdoor installation, taking operating conditions into account.

Filtration and temperature treatment

The unit may include filters, a heater and a cooler; the section types depend on project requirements and available heating and cooling sources.

Additional sections

Fine filtration, humidification, sound attenuation and other treatment components can be specified in the project.

Heating and cooling type

Options include water or electric heating, water cooling, or a direct-expansion cooler, subject to compatibility and engineering conditions.

How air moves through the unit

The treatment sequence depends on the unit configuration and project design. If included in the configuration, the controls operate the equipment and its safety functions.

  1. 01
    Outdoor air intake

Air enters through the intake and air damper.

  2. 02
    Filtration

The airflow passes through one or more filtration stages specified in the project.

  3. 03
    Treatment

The air is heated, cooled or otherwise treated by the sections included in the unit.

  4. 04
    Supply to the rooms

The supply fan delivers the conditioned air into the duct network.

Equipment selection

Start with your project data

Share the technical specification or key system parameters to help determine the appropriate section configuration and unit design.

  • For selection, prepare the design airflow rate, duct system resistance, outdoor and required supply-air temperatures, heating and cooling medium parameters, filtration requirements, installation location and dimensional constraints.

Flexible configuration for your project

The frame design makes it possible to select a combination of sections and a unit configuration to suit the site’s needs and installation conditions.

01

Configuration tailored to site requirements

The unit can include the required stages of filtration, heating, cooling and additional treatment.

02

Choice of installation location

Indoor and outdoor configurations are available to suit operating conditions.

03

Section-by-section delivery

Separate parts of the unit can be supplied for on-site assembly if specified in the project.

04

Service access

Service doors and removable panels can provide access to the main components.

05

Integration capability

With suitable controls, the equipment can be integrated with the building management system.

Frame-type supply air units in Kazakhstan

Frame-type supply air units are used for central ventilation in commercial and industrial buildings. If you are planning to buy a frame-type supply air unit in Kazakhstan, selection starts with the design air exchange rate and air-treatment requirements. The frame-and-panel construction allows the required filtration, heating and cooling sections to be combined in one system. The price of a frame-type supply air unit depends on its configuration, including capacity, casing design, heat exchangers, filters and controls. The cost is therefore determined for each specific project. A unit for a shopping centre and equipment for an industrial facility may require different sections and installation conditions. For facilities in Almaty, Astana, Shymkent and other cities, climate conditions, the installation location and the availability of utilities are taken into account. Send the Klimatrade specialists your technical specification or key system parameters to discuss the configuration and delivery terms.

Frequently asked questions

How does a frame-type unit differ from a compact unit?

A frame-type unit generally offers more flexibility in choosing the section configuration and layout. Compact units more often have a predefined set of components. However, compactness and a frame-type design are not mutually exclusive.

Can the unit be installed outdoors?

Yes, if the unit has an outdoor configuration suited to the site’s climate conditions. A unit designed for a plant room should not automatically be assumed suitable for outdoor installation.

Does a supply air unit provide exhaust ventilation?

A supply air unit delivers air. Extract air is usually removed by a separate exhaust system; a supply-and-exhaust unit is selected when both functions need to be combined.

Can a water cooler be connected to a chiller?

Yes, if the unit is equipped with a water cooler compatible with the parameters of the chilled-water circuit. Suitable control valves and a condensate drain must also be provided.

Can the unit maintain a set humidity level?

This requires the appropriate treatment sections and controls. A configuration with only a filter, fan and heater cannot provide precise humidity control.

What affects the cost of the equipment?

The price depends on capacity, section configuration, casing design, fan and heat exchanger types, filters and control capabilities. The cost is calculated for the selected configuration.
